BIGGLESWADE TOWN 1 v LEIGHTON TOWN 1
December 2, 2023
The biggest surprise was that this match started, with so many other matches called off due to sub-zero temperatures the previous days, the pitch in great condition and hoping for a match to warm the spectators.
Biggleswade still not able to field a full-strength team due to a long list of injuries mainly to the strikers, many that were on there were running wounded, the strappings on legs obvious for all to see.
The fast flowing football of the Waders not on view as Leighton matched every move. The first half all Waders but just not that cutting edge to the put the game beyond the combative Leighton Town. At the break 0-0
As is so often the case, gaining in confidence at their first half reprieve Leighton felt they could win this contest hitting at the Wader defence. Fortunately the back line and Kyle Forster stood tall and repulsed any attempts albeit few. On 84 the Leighton town back line was opened up and a “trademark” goal by JJ Lacey loitering at the back post gave Biggleswade the ascendancy.
Holding out for the last throws of this game was not going to be easy as Leighton ploughed forward. On 90+2 with the ball bobbling around the Wader’s area, somehow the ball hit the back of the net, BUT as always, the referee had already blown for a penalty. Despite protests and a short reprieve Jake Watkinson stepped to give Forster no chance. Full time 1-1
The bonus with the point gained, Biggleswade slid into a play-off place and it is for the Waders to lose that place not relying on others, an enviable position.
