Community education being delivered in an accessible town centre setting has a new face: Bridget Hall.

Bridget has taken over as Group Manager of the Learning Centres within The Bedford College Group where people can, often for free, learn basic to intermediate IT skills as well as taking up options such as English for a Second Language (ESOL), basic maths and English leading to basic qualifications.

Learning Centres were established by The Bedford College Group decades ago and have continually adapted to meet changing demands from the communities they serve.

They have helped tens of 1,000s of older people to become silver surfers (more important than ever in this high tech world), guided those with practical experience but no paperwork towards employer-recognised qualifications, and others to win promotion by moving on to intermediate courses.

Now the range of courses is being broadened so more adults can access modern “Green’ skills and a even wider choices via Training for Employment.

Said Bridget: “Our centres are easy to reach as they are in key towns on bus routes, they are open outside of standard office hours and Saturday mornings so people can come in and learn in a supported environment at a time to fit around their work and family commitments. They are so very important to so many people.”

The centres are also a gateway to a variety of distance learning courses for adults.
