New homes will be within walking distance of facilities!

An objector to plans for new homes in Oakley has said they don’t “understand the necessity to squeeze some extra dwellings into such a small and unsuitable site”.

But the applicants said the site is one of two housing allocations under the Oakley Neighbourhood Plan to provide new homes within the village.

They were commenting on an outline application for up to 10 new homes on land north of the village’s High Street.

In their planning statement, the applicants said the 0.9 hectare site is within the settlement of Oakley and within “walking distance” of its services and facilities, adding that it is a location that will “encourage” the use of sustainable modes of travel.

The site is accessed via an existing track between 84 and 86 High Street.

The applicants said the site would have a range of housing types and sizes, and 30 per cent of the new homes will be “affordable”.

However, the housing mix will not be defined until the reserved matters stage of the planning process (if this application is approved).

More information can be found on Bedford Borough Council’s planning portal, reference 23/02494/MAO.

The overall consultation expiry date is Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
