Beds Senior Cup

After two postponements due to waterlogged pitches at The Eyre, under the Beds FA Cup rules this game was switched to Langford Road, FC knocked Town out at the same stage of the competition last year on penalties, this time around it was much more straight forward with Town never really troubling the away side.

Town started the brighter and had the better of the opening exchanges, however, FC grew into the game, the first half hour was fairly even but then on 31minutes a stunning strike from stand in Captain Lawire Marsh set FC on their way.

The Town keeper may feel he should’ve done better but the 20plus yard shot was a quality hit.

Then just before the break George Bailey gave the visitors a 2 goal advantage, a good move involving Michael Simpson and Jack Dickerson found Bailey in the box, he kept a cool head to finish nicely in the bottom corner.

A second round tie was effectively sealed in the 55th minute when Marsh grabbed his second of the game, a lovely glancing header at a corner nestled low inside the far post.

FC had to play the last ten minutes with ten men when Dan Carey-Evens got his marching orders from a second yellow, the decision looked extremely harsh, fortunately though it didn’t affect the result.

A fine performance then from FC who set up an away game at Shefford Town & Campton FC in the next round.

MOM 12th Man, FC away fans who were in fine voice all evening.
