Bedford Borough’s CEO issues apology regarding two late reports

0

The CEO of Bedford Borough Council, Laura Church (appointed under the Lib Leadership in 2021) has issued an apology to Council members regarding the Capital and Treasury Management Strategies not being brought back to Full Council on the January 10, 2024.

Liberal Democrat councillors have accused the Conservative administration of acting unlawfully by failing to report back to the council on two key strategies as required by the law.

Councillor Michael Headley (former finance portfolio holder) asked the Mayor to refer themselves to the Council’s auditors for this serious failing, but was not given a positive response. Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have now written to the auditors to alert them to this failing.

Cllr Michael Headley said: “This administration leaves chaos in its wake. We’ve already had decisions having to be re-made because they were wrong. We’ve had statements repeated that were millions of pounds out, that then had to be publicly corrected and now – most serious of all – they have failed to follow the law.”
