Re-opening ahead of the summer season to feature the return of family fun
Oasis Beach Pool, in Bedford, officially re-opens Tuesday, May 28, with a celebration for the local community.
The ‘Totally Tropical Beach Party’ sees the iconic venue re-opened with a flourish – steel pans, limbo dancing, costumed characters, a T shirt painting competition and a ‘Tiki Bar’ serving tasty mocktails will all feature at the event which runs from 11am to 3pm.
The pool’s re-opening has been dearly awaited by local residents – many grandparents and parents taught little ones to swim there since it opened in the 1990’s.
Operators GLL – a charitable social enterprise – run leisure and library services nationally under the ‘Better’ brand. They have worked alongside the Council – who have invested £500k in essential plant and lighting – to get the building back open and improve the customer experience with a new reception and shop, a party room, additional multi-use spaces, repairs to showers, lockers and a deep clean.
The facility boasts a lazy river, flumes, small pool, leisure pool and jacuzzi.
General Manager Ricky Whiting said: “At Bedford Oasis Beach Pool we can’t wait to throw our doors open for our community funday on 28 May which we are calling our Totally Tropical Beach Party.
“It’s been long awaited and we know the pool has a special place in the hearts and minds of local people in Bedford.
“Many happy days have been spent here and we want to ensure under our management that this will again be the case.
“Better are committed to delivering a first-class service and we aim the delight the people of Bedford and beyond.”
Future investment includes the creation of party rooms and there will be new caterers on site.
To help the celebrations get off to a flying start, Better are offering kids entry for £1 to the ‘Aqua Play’ session from 12pm – 5pm.
Cllr Sarah Gallagher, Portfolio Holder for Customer Experience, said: “The Oasis Beach Pool re-opening marks a wholesale improvement in Bedford Borough’s leisure service.
“Under Better’s management it is truly going to serve the needs of the local community for many years to come, providing more happy memories and family fun.”
