A man who carried out a robbery at a Luton cashpoint used his teeth to force his victim to release the money in his hand.
Levi McColl, 41, bit into the man’s index finger and thumb to snatch the £20. It happened in Church Street, close to the town centre just after midnight on August 20 this year. Luton crown court was told the man had just withdrawn £20 from the machine when McColl and another man came up to him.
Prosecutor Peter Shaw said McColl who was homeless and living on the street told the victim: “Give that to me. I want that money.”
The court was told the man refused and clenched the two £10 notes. The defendant then punched his victim to the ground before kicking him in his chest. With the man still refusing to let go of the cash, McColl then crouched down to bite the man’s finger and thumb on his right hand piercing the skin.
McColl was then able to snatch the money and made off. He was arrested soon afterwards.
Recorder Howard Cohen hearing the case was told that McColl had amassed 37 previous convictions.
His barrister Chantelle Stocks said McColl had a long history of class A drug taking involving heroin and crack cocain.
The court was told that since being remanded in custody, McColl was drug free and making efforts to tackle his drug problems.
Recorder Howard Cohen jailed him for three years explaining that he would have to serve half the sentence in custody before he is released on licence.
