On Saturday Janaury 22, 2022, of January, Cllr John Wheeler and the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis were joined by 200 attendees to take part in the Queens Greens Canopy event ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ as part of celebrations for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Queens Green Canopy who focuses on planting sustainably, the aim of the QGC is to plant trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation which will benefit future generations – our children’s children and our grandchildren’s children.

There were 70 trees planted (a tree for each year of Her Majesty’s reign), which included oak, wild cherry, rowan, hornbeam, field maple and birch trees and were supplied by the Forest of Marston Vale through DEFRA’s ‘Trees for Climate’ campaign. They were planted on land owned by the Parish Council and an adjacent field which is owned by the Crown Estate.

Wootton Ward Councillor John Wheeler said: “First of all I must thank all the organisers from the Forest of Marston Vale, the Crown Estate, the Parish Council and the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Helen Nellis who arranged and took part in this marvellous event.

It was great to see so many Wootton residents of all generations here celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I am ecstatic with how the event went and it excites me that the planting of these trees will have a positive impact for all residents for many years to come.”
