A Bedford man who allowed his flat to be used for drug dealing has been given a 12 month community order with conditions that he take part in a rehabilitation course.
Jason Chand, 54, was one of those arrested when the police raided Chandos Court in the town on July 30, 2020.
It followed concerns over drug supply and anti-social behaviour in the high rise block.
Chand, previously of The Plaza, St Peter’s Street, Bedford, appeared for sentence at Luton Crown Court, having pleaded guilty to permitting his premises to be used for drug dealing between June 13, 2020 and July 30, 2020 and possessing cannabis.
Mohammed Bashir, defending, said Chand had been a long-term user of Class A drugs.
“Drug dealers came to his flat. They stuck him in the bedroom and told him to wait there. They did not give him drugs or money. He was a vulnerable drug user.
He had been taken advantage of by an unscrupulous group of people who used his home for six weeks.
He said Chand’s current methadone script – to help him come off drugs, was at its lowest level. He said he was currently homeless and was ‘sofa surfing’.
Judge Gary Lucie said the Community Order had conditions that he does 25 rehabilitation days and takes part in a 12 month drug rehabilitation requirement that means he will have to report to the court every four weeks.
