Two IT students from The Bedford College Group are off to take part in the WorldSkills UK Website Development competition.

James McKay, 17, and Daniel Cobzariu, 21, are in the final eight of the national event being held in Middlesborough on November 14.

Joining them will be staff member Christian Nunez-Fuentes who is famous UK-wide as an example of outstanding modern teaching in Further Education (FE).  He is featured on the Guardian newspaper and other platforms.

James, of Barton-le-Clay joined a T-Level course at Bedford College instead of staying on to do A Levels at Harlington School. He has worked at dovelp.com as part of his course and is hoping to get a degree apprenticeship when he has completed his current studies. He was shortlisted for the British Computer Society T Level Student of the Year award earlier this year.

Daniel, now aged 21, joined Bedford College at the age of 16 and has progressed from Level 2 to his current HND Computing course and plans to stay on and “top up” to a full degree on the campus with a view to a career in software design.

Said Christian: “This is an exciting opportunity for these students to be competing alongside the best in the UK.”

Bedford College has a track record of IT and computing students winning places in WorldSkills competitions. In November 2021 two students took part in the national finals in the Cybersecurity competition which took place at New College Lanarkshire in Scotland.

The Bedford College Group offers a wide range of IT courses from those aimed at 16-year-olds to progression on to full degrees.

In September 2022 a range of new Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQ) were launched across various Group campuses in Beds and Northants covering General, Applications Development and Testing, Cyber Security and Network Engineering.
