At 11.0am on November 11, 2022, Remembrance Day, Councillors and staff gathered in the churchyard of St Swithun’s church to observe a minutes silence.
A welcome was made by Rev Huw Davies, followed by the reading of the Epitaph and Kohima by Mayor Cllr Martin Pettitt.
A poem entitled “Why do the poppies fall?” written in 2013 by Rosanna Billington from Flitwick when she was 13, was read by Cllr Mrs Susan Sutton, President of the Sandy Branch of the RBL. Rev Davies finished the short service with the Act of Commitment.
A full parade and service will be held on Sunday, November 13, starting from Swan Lane and stopping at the war memorial for a short service and laying of wreaths.
The parade will then complete a journey along Bedford Road, taking the salute at the Roundabout Club, then proceeding along the High Street to finish at St Swithun’s church where the service will be held.
All are welcome to attend the parade and service.
