On Monday, January 16, 2023, 1st Stockwood Brownies, who meet at Tennyson Road School in Luton, were delighted to welcome Councillor Sameera Saleem – Mayor of Luton to their unit.
Invited by unit leader Sue Hunt, Cllr Saleem made the special visit as she was very interested to see what the girls do at Brownies. During the evening Cllr Saleem joined in as the girls learned First Aid and played lots of fun games.
Girlguiding County Commissioner Karen Keeling said: “We were delighted that Cllr Saleem took time out of her busy schedule to visit one of our units in Luton. The girls were excited to meet her and loved that she was able to join in the activities. Cllr Saleem is a wonderful role model for our girls and will no doubt give them inspiration for the future.”
Leader Sue Hunt said: “Following a visit to the Mayoral Chambers last year the girls were eager for the Mayor to come and see what they get up to at Brownies, so they were very pleased when Cllr Saleem accepted their invitation.
“Girlguiding offers so many great opportunities for girls of all ages and from all backgrounds so it’s always a joy to be able to share that within the community.”
The visit proved to be a great success and the Brownies have been inspired to take a keen interest in local and national governance.
