Bedford Borough’s Budget and Corporate Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee oversees the council’s proposed budget for 2024, drawn up by the defeated former Mayor Dave Hodgson’s finance chief, Councillor Headley.
At the Executive Committee meeting held on June 21, the outgoing member, LibDem Cllr Michael Headley told those in attendance that his budget for the next period was £2.3million overspent but his ‘prudence’ left the Council in a strong financial position!
The attending members of the Mayor’s Executive were left speechless when Headley went on to challenge the newly elected Conservative Mayor, Tom Wootton on his proposals to square this financial circle.
In a stroke of irony the former finance chief now sits on the scrutiny committee picking his own budget to pieces!
