Bedfordshire will receive around £238,000 funding over the next two years from central government to help nature thrive in the area.
Central Bedfordshire Council has been announced as the responsible authority for the creation of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) for Bedfordshire. LNRS is a new requirement of the Environment Act 2021.
The funding will support work over the next two years to create a Local Nature Recovery Strategy focusing on nature recovery, enhanced biodiversity, associated climate change and sustainability benefits.
The Council will work with Bedford and Luton Borough Councils, the Local Nature Partnership, farmers, landowners, communities, and other organisations on this locally-led initiative to help natural habitats flourish in our area
Councillor Mary Walsh, Central Bedfordshire Council’s Executive Member for planning and development said: “We are delighted to have secured this funding and be appointed as the Responsible Authority for Bedfordshire.
“We look forward to working with our partners to promote nature recovery in the area and to support biodiversity and climate change objectives.”
