A drunken woman who smashed a wine bottle over the head of a barman at a Luton pub was jailed for 20 months at Luton Crown on Monday, May 11, 2020.
Pauline Tonks, 46, and a friend had been asked to leave The White House in Luton town centre because other customers were complaining they were making too much noise.
Prosecutor Alfred Underwood told Luton crown court that Tonks was very drunk and shouted: “No, No, No” when the barman tried to take her wine bottle away.
She snatched the bottle back and the barman went off to find his manager. They returned and when the barman collected the couple’s wine glasses she smashed the bottle onto his head.
“Blood poured from his head. He suffered a deep cut above the eye and several other cuts to the head,” said Mr Underwood.
The police were called and the manager escorted Tonks to a downstairs room. She accused him of “touching her up”, punched him in the groin and kicked his leg three times.
Tonks of Ruthin Close, Luton appeared for sentence via a video link from Peterborough jail. She had pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and common assault. She was in breach of a nine month suspended sentence for actual bodily harm.
Defending, Caroline Skeet said Tonks recognised that alcohol was “the trigger.” She said: “She would not do it when she is sober. She has tried to get her drinking under control and is genuinely remorseful. She recognises the two victims were just doing their job and wishes to apologise to them.”
Judge Mark Bishop told her: “You assaulted two people who were simply trying to do their jobs.” He said the actual bodily harm was an extremely serious offence.
She was jailed for a total of 20 months.
