Luton man who took a Taser gun to a street fight gets suspended sentence

A man who was caught on CCTV with a Taser device and then seen to hide in a rubbish bin in the street has received a suspended prison sentence.

Appearing at Luton Crown Court on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, the Recorder was told, Umar Ali had been seen by the police with the device in the early hours of July 7, last year.

At the time there had been large scale disorder incident going on in the area of the junction for Biscot Road, Saxon Road and Blenheim Crescent.

Police arrived on the scene to deal with a number of people in the area with weapons and made arrests.

Also out that night was Ali, 27, who lives in Biscot Road.

Following the disorder that night officers looked at a number of peripheral incidents and through examining CCTV footage saw Ali near the co-op store in Biscotti Road with the taser.

They watched him with it and saw him put it the bin.

He pleaded guilty to possessing the Taser and was handed an eight month prison sentence which was suspended for a year and ordered to carry out 150 hours on unpaid work.
