Man arrested over robbery of blind man

A man has been arrested in connection with the robbery of a blind man that happened in Bedford.

At around 12.30pm on Wednesday, October 7, the victim was approached in front of a parade of shops in Greyfriars and told to hand over cash.

The man refused and as he tried to walk away, he was forcibly stopped and money was taken from his wallet.

A man in his 40s has now been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection to the incident and is currently in police custody for questioning.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of further robbery and theft offences.

Detective Sergeant Simon Oldfield, from our Crime Investigation Team, said: “This was a terrible incident which left the victim shaken up.

“We won’t stand for the exploitation of vulnerable people in Bedfordshire and we will do everything we can to get justice for victims.”
