Pupils at Beaudesert Lower School in Leighton Buzzard have received a donation of hi-vis kit bags from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to help them shine bright during Road Safety Week.

The Bedfordshire housebuilder has given the school 40 of the kit bags for their pupils to wear whilst walking to and from school, ensuring they can be easily seen on the roads as the darker nights draw in.

Road Safety Week runs from November 16 – 22 and inspires thousands of schools, organisations and communities to take action on road safety and promote life-saving messages during the week and beyond.

The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘No Need to Speed’, focusing on how a reduced speed of traffic leads to safe and healthy journeys.

Vanessa Pearce, Headteacher at Beaudesert Lower School, said: “We remind the children, all the time, about being safe outside school. We always ensure that our road safety message is received and understood, especially at the time of year where visibility is reduced on dark mornings and evenings. The bags from Barratt Homes will help our children to remember the extra important need to be seen and safe.”

The homebuilder’s development Clipstone Park is located close to Beaudesert Lower School and the donation of hi-vis kit bags is part of Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ ongoing commitment to the local community.

In what’s been a challenging year for schools across the country as a result of the pandemic, the leading developer is still as committed as ever to providing support during Road Safety Week and beyond.

Karly Williams, Sales Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Thames, said: “We want to ensure the pupils in the local communities remain visible now the darker nights are here, and our donation will hopefully still encourage them to walk to school safely during Road Safety Week.

“This is a campaign we actively support each year as we endeavour to help local school children in their efforts to commute on foot, and the kit bags have proven to be both effective and practical.

“As a result of the Covid-19 crisis, it’s even more important for us to support the local schools in and around the communities we build, so we’re thrilled to have had the chance to support Beaudesert Lower School during Road Safety Week.”

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ hi-vis kit bags will be particularly useful during Road Safety Week, whilst being certain to benefit the pupils in their future journeys to school throughout the winter months.
