An inquest into the death of a heavily pregnant nurse who died after contracting coronavirus is to be heard next month.
Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, 28, was admitted to the Luton and Dunstable hospital, on April 7 and died five days later. She had worked on a general ward at the hospital.
Her baby daughter, Mary, was successfully delivered by caesarian section and survived.
At a pre-inquest in Ampthill, Beds on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, the coroner Sean Cummings said the full inquest is likely to be a hybrid hearing with some witnesses attending the court and others appearing remotely.
It is due to begin at 10am on Tuesday, March 23 and last for four days.
Mary Agyapong was born in Agogo in Ghana on 10 January 1008. She had initially been admitted and discharged on April 5, 2020 only to be readmitted on 7th April with shortness of breath. A swab was taken and she was confirmed positive for Covid-19.
She was 35 weeks pregnant and was taken to theatre for a Caesarian section and then transferred to the intensive care unit.
Her cause of death has been recorded as: 1A pneumonia and 1B Covid B and 2 ceasarian section.
At the time of her death David Carter, the chief executive of the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, described her as a “fantastic nurse and a great example of what we stand for in this trust.”
A Go Fund Me page was set up for her husband Ernest Boateng and their children AJ and Mary. It raised a total of £187,039.
At an earlier hearing her husband was said to have concerns about Mary’s working conditions. He has raised concerns about her working at the hospital at the start of the covid pandemic when she was in the third trimester of her pregnancy.
