Kempston Calling

Some good news

I wanted to share with you some good news during this worrying time.

Over the Easter bank holiday weekend, Bedford Borough Council’s Community Hub delivered the 1000th food parcel to vulnerable residents.

The Hub has been providing vital support for people from food and prescriptions, to a friendly chat to help people in isolation feel a little less lonely.

If you or someone you know is in need of support, please contact the Council at www.bedford.gov.uk/covid19 or on 01234 718101.

If you would like to join the Council’s incredible volunteer force, you can also do so at www.bedford.gov.uk/covid19

We have also now distributed over £10million to local businesses as part of the Government’s grant funding.

The Council has set up an online form, to make it as easy as possible for local ratepayers to get this money and eligible businesses are asked to get in touch with the Council online and provide the necessary details for their business, which will enable the Council to get this grant funding to them as quickly as possible.

We are working to get this support funding to businesses as soon as possible.

To date, around 1,300 businesses have filled in a form and 1,100 have been approved.

However, there are businesses locally that are eligible that have not yet been in touch.

If you think you are eligible for this support, please get in touch with us at www.bedford.gov.uk/covid19business.

Finally, to my hero of the week – you will have seen Bedfordshire resident Captain Tom Moore has walked 100 lengths of his garden ahead of his 100th birthday to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

Captain Tom set out to raise £1,000 and has, so far raised almost £20million! You can support Captain Tom and the NHS Charities Together at
