Noisy neighbour has music equipment seized

On Friday, July 3, a resident of Eastdale Close, Kempston had his music equipment seized by Bedford Borough Council after persistently bombarding neighbours with loud amplified music.

A Noise Abatement Notice, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, was served in May 2020 for loud amplified music after Environmental Health Officers had witnessed noise at unacceptable levels which was considered to be a nuisance to his neighbours.

Neighbours complained they had been subjected to continuous noise, from early morning to very late at night, which the resident had refused to reduce, resulting in breaches of the notice.

The man’s music equipment, including speakers, stereos and a TV were seized last week following a warrant issued by the Magistrates Court. Council Officers, with assistance from Bedfordshire Police, seized over 30 items.

Cllr Colleen Atkins, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, Regulatory Services and Housing said, “Nobody should have to suffer from the misery caused by excessive noise because of inconsiderate nuisance neighbours.

“Our response illustrates that we will work with our partners to help those members of the community who have been affected by taking action against those responsible.”
