New Headteacher appointed at Kempston’s Daubeney Academy

John Linehan has been appointed as the new Headteacher at Daubeney Academy, part of Chiltern Learning Trust.

John joins the team at Daubeney Academy with a wealth of experience in the education sector and replaces Matt Lee, who held the role of Head of School.

Prior to joining the school in Kempston, John was Deputy Headteacher at Putteridge High School. Luton, which is also part of the Chiltern Learning Trust. He helped to oversee huge improvements during his time at the Luton school including working closely with the Headteacher and Governing body to see the school grow from a roll of 480 pupils to 1,200 pupils in just five years.

Speaking about his appointment, John Linehan said: “It is an honour to have been appointed as Daubeney Academy’s Headteacher. Matt Lee has already done a tremendous job to bring the school to the position it is today and I hope to build on this in the future.

“Thank you to all staff, parents and carers for the warm welcome and support that they have shown me so far. I’m looking forward to lots of collaborative events and opportunities for our students coming up over the next few months and the chance to introduce myself more to the wider school community.”

Speaking on John’s appointment, Adrian Rogers, Chief Executive Officer of Chiltern Learning Trust, said: “We are delighted that John has joined Daubeney Academy as the new Headteacher, where we are certain he will bring a broad range of valuable experience.

“John will bring sharp professionalism to the role and is keen to continue to improve both teaching and learning and pupil behaviour.

“We wish John the best of luck in his new role and greatly look forward to seeing how this appointment will lead the school on its continual growth journey.”

Matt Lee held the role of Head of School at Daubeney Academy for the last three years and leaves the school to take up a leadership role as Associate Principal in a secondary school.

Thanking Matt, Adrian added: “Matt has worked hard for the Kempston community in the last three years and we all wish him well. During Covid-19, enormous pressure was placed on all school leaders, school staff and our families. Our community thank Matt for his resilience and courage during his time with the school where he rebranded Daubeney and set a vision for improvement.”

Daubeney Academy is an 11 to 16 school with a roll of more than 400 students, which provides comprehensive education for students in the Kempston area.

Daubeney Academy joined Chiltern Learning Trust on May 1, 2022, alongside three former Challenger MAT schools – Lancot Primary School, Kempston Challenger Academy and Springfield Primary Academy.
