A burglar who pleaded guilty to a number of offences following a string of incidents in the Brickhill area of Bedford has been sentenced to three years.

Theo Cranfield, 20, of Carmichael Drive, Bedford, pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary, two counts of attempted burglary and one count of going equipped for burglary.

In the early hours of February 7, 2021, a number of properties were targeted by Cranfield in a spate of ‘door-to-door’ break-ins and he was captured on numerous CCTV cameras and Ring doorbells.

Cranfield was identified by Detective Constable Kevin Howes, from Bedfordshire Police’s dedicated burglary team Operation Maze, who was reviewing a routine CCTV image circulation.

He was sentenced on Monday, April 26, at Luton Crown Court to three years for each count of burglary, two years for each count of attempted burglary and eight months for going equipped for burglary, all to run concurrently. He will serve his sentence in Young Offender Institution.

Detective Constable Howes said: “We are satisfied that Cranfield has received a custodial sentence and will hopefully take this time to re-consider the direction in which his life is going and change the error of his ways. He will now spend some of the best years of his young life paying for his crimes.

“Cranfield has accepted responsibility for his actions, and he also admitted further offences to be taken into consideration, which he received credit for.

“We hope this sentence will serve as a warning to those looking to benefit from other people’s hard work.

“We are dedicated to the investigation of burglary and will do all we can to bring offenders to justice.”
