To celebrate Great Big Green Week this year, Bedford Borough Council are holding a number of exciting and interactive events online and in the town centre.
The Council are working in partnership with the Great Big Green Week Bedford and Bedfordshire Climate Change Forum to bring the events to Bedford Borough residents.
Bedford Borough Council staff and volunteers will be holding events that include a plant sale and garden tours of Castle Close and behind the walls of The Panacea Museum from The Higgins Bedford, two wellbeing walks with litter picks around the river (meeting outside Bedford Central Library) and free balance bike and scooter training in Jubilee Park and Bedford Park.
The Council will also be lighting the Bedford Town Bridge green on Saturday 25th September in order to mark the week.
Other events taking place across the week include several online talks and Q&As, a climate coffee morning, Made in Bedford’s September Makers Market and the Green Earth Vegan Fair. As part of the Green Earth Vegan Fair, the Council’s Recycling, Sustainability, Sports Development and Sustainable Transport teams will be available to discuss steps we can all take to address climate change.
Dave Hodgson, Mayor of Bedford Borough, said: “We’ve got lots of exciting events and activities taking place in the borough as part of the Great Big Green Week this year. As awareness about the impacts of climate change grows, we want to be ambitious about tackling climate change in Bedford Borough.
“Tackling climate change is something that nobody can do on their own. The Great Big Green Week is an opportunity to come together as a community to become more green and sustainable.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind voluntary, community groups, not for profit organisations, public sector schools and registered charities to apply to The Mayor’s Climate Change Fund which can provide up to 50% match funding, from £5,000 up to £20,000, for improvements that reduce carbon emissions and energy costs of community buildings within Bedford Borough.”
